Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a learning difficulty which affects reading and writing skills. Dyslexic people may also have difficulty processing and remembering information they see and hear, which can affect learning and the acquisition of literacy skills. Dyslexia can also impact on other areas such as organisational skills.
An assessment requires triangulating evidence. We look at background information, including s history of difficulties and interventions. We consider the results of formal tests and whether the student used any compensatory strategies or whether the tests were effortful.
The report is usually with you within 10 working days and includes recommendations to support learning. A clear diagnostic decision is evident. If the evidence does not support a diagnosis of dyslexia this will be clearly explained.
I offer online remote assessments for dyslexia. These follow SASC guidance and are accepted to apply for Disabled Student's Allowance. I use remote versions of testing tools and these are approved by SASC.

I hold an Assessment Practising Certificate from The Dyslexia Guild and am also a professional member of The BDA and PATOSS. I have a Level 5 qualification in maths difficulties and I also have AMBDAD - this enables me to assess for dyscalculia.. I carry out dyscalculia/ maths difficulties assessments face to face only. A full maths assessment takes around four hours.
Dyscalculia is a learning difficulty which makes it difficult for a learner to achieve in maths. Dyscalculia is a difficulty particularly in understanding and working with numbers. There may be difficulties with ordering and comparing numbers, estimating and place value.
A Specific Learning Difficulty in maths iis a difficulty in maths caused by processing difficulties that impact upon maths skills.
An assessment requires triangulating evidence. We look at background information, including s history of difficulties and interventions. We consider the results of formal tests and whether the student used any compensatory strategies or whether the tests were effortful.
The report is usually with you within 15 working days and includes recommendations to support learning. A clear diagnostic decision is evident. If the evidence does not support a diagnosis of dyslexia this will be clearly explained.
I have found that many parents prefer this as it avoids the need to travel to me and arrange childcare or school pick ups for siblings I find that older students prefer being online and in their own home. It makes the process less stressful. I have invested in online versions of tests. These are shared on screen and are the same as paper based tests. Please note dyscalculia assessments should not be carried out online. This is against our professional guidance.
Yes, absolutely. We have strict guidance to follow from The SpLd Assessment Standards .Committee (SASC) that outlines how to carry out a valid and reliable online assessment. My assessments can be used to apply for Disabled Students' Allowance at university.
You will need to use either a laptop or PC for the assessment. Assessments cannot be carried out on mobile phones or iPads. You will require a working camera and microphone. You will also need a pen and paper.
You will be required to scan or photograph the writing and spelling and email back to me.
I assess online from the age of 10. A parent will need to be present in case of technical difficulties.
I am based on the Beds/ Bucks border. I use a small room in a local village hall. This has a toilet and a sofa along with table and chairs for the student. It has ample parking and is easy to find.
SASC guidance suggests that we should wait until the age of 8 to assess a child diagnostically. This is to ensure children have had time to complete a phonics programme and to ensure interventions have been implemented. We can carry out an assessment for learning before this time.
